How much money should you bring to Cancun?

If you are about to travel to Cancun, then you must keep reading and find out more about how much money you should bring to Cancun.

Many visitors next to come to Cancun face different questions like whats the local currency? Should I bring Pesos or Dollars? Which credit cards are valid to use?. Having these in mind, we will try to clear all your doubts.

The local currency

The official currency is the Mexican Peso (MXN) and is divided into bills from 100, 200, 500, 1,000, and coins from 0.50, 1, 2, 5 up to 10. Mexican Pesos are accepted throughout the whole country, and to us, it is the best way to pay.

On the other hand, you can always bring Dollars with you. Most establishments and taxis accepted them as payment. Bur remember, paying in dollars may cause you to lose a few bucks because of the exchange rate, so it’s easier to pay in Pesos.

Credit Cards in Cancun

Using your credit card is a safer, more practical, and easier way to carry your money, although, be aware that you may have to call your bank to let them know you will be outside the country and also, you’ll pay a fee for using it abroad.

Major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard are accepted practically everywhere, and in some places, AMEX.

How much money should I carry around Cancun?

In our experience, we recommend to always carry with you the equivalent of 150 Dollars in Pesos. Always try to pay for public transportation in Pesos because most likely, the buses won’t give you change if you pay in Dollars.

Now that you are an expert on the local currency and how much money you should bring with you to Cancun, all you need to do from now on is to enjoy your vacations.
