How to get to Cancun from the airport

Are you planning to visit Cancun but once you arrive at the airport you have trouble choosing the right way to get to your hotel? Keep reading to find out how to make your transfer from Cancun airport to the center!

Located in the south-east of Mexico, on the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Cancún borders the Caribbean Sea. Known by all for Spring Break, the jet-set atmosphere, the music, the luxury boutiques, the trendy hotel clubs, and, of course, the incredible color of the water. Cancún is often summed up in its hotel zone in the minds of tourists. However, it is also a city full of surprises, where you can meet fishing families, have lunch in small unpretentious shops, dive into incredible spots, and wander away from the crowds. Just take the time to get off the beaten track. Cancun is also an excellent starting point to discover the cultural and natural treasures.

The international airport is located about 20 kilometers from the Cancun hotel zone. It is the second busiest airport in Mexico. How do you get to your hotel from the airport? Follow our advice!

The most user-friendly: shared transportation services

These shared vans are both more comfortable than a bus, but less expensive than a private taxi. It is also an opportunity to exchange with other tourists that you may come across on a beach or in the street. Cancun is a small world! If you are in a group, it will be more profitable to book a private van. The same will be true if your accommodation is not located in the hotel zone, which is often the only one served by shared transport.

The fastest: the taxi

Taxis can accommodate an average of three to four people. It is not possible to choose a taxi on the spot by simply exchanging with the driver. You must reserve your seat at the ticket office located in terminals 2, 3, or 4 of the airport and pay in advance. Fares are non-negotiable, which helps to limit scams by preventing travelers from being fooled by unofficial taxis that may try to shoot down prices.

The cheapest: the bus

Unless your hotel offers a free shuttle service, the bus is undoubtedly the cheapest form of transportation. ADO operates throughout the country. Buses are safe and reliable. Once in the city center, the bus will drop you off at the ADO central station. You can then easily take a taxi or another bus to your hotel. They usually run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By taking a bus of line R1 or R2, you can reach the hotel area for 12 Mexican pesos per person.

Most Available: Private Transportation

Hotels and some hostels often offer private shuttle services to pick you up at the airport and drop you off at the foot of your hotel. You don’t have to worry about anything. Everything has to be arranged in advance with the manager of your accommodation. Once there, you don’t have to wait in line to book a taxi or wait for the bus. Shuttle buses are normally available at any time of the day or night, depending on the services offered by your hotel.
